Helpful Lawn Mowing Tips:

• Establish a mulched area around trees so that close trimming is not necessary. This will prevent damage to the bark of the tree from either the mower or a string trimmer.
• Only remove one-third of the grass height when you mow to prevent damage and stress to the lawn. Taking too much off at once starves the roots and may expose new lower leaves to sunburn.
• Leave small and finely chopped clippings on the lawn where they will decompose and improve the soil’s health, but remove clumps that can smother the grass.
• Keeping mower blades sharp will prevent unnecessary damage to the grass blades. Dull blades will give the lawn a brown look and increase the likelihood of disease.
• Alternating mowing directions each time you mow will prevent soil compaction and encourage the grass blades to grow upright.
• Get a soil test performed before adding anything to your turf or garden. Guessing what your lawn requires can be bad, for the environment, for your landscape, and for your pocketbook.
